Stoke City are reportedly among several clubs showing strong interest in Plymouth Argyle striker Lorent Tolaj, as competition intensifies for one of the standout attacking players in League One this season.

Tolaj, aged 24, has enjoyed a highly productive campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists in 35 appearances. His form has attracted widespread attention ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with multiple teams across different leagues now tracking his situation. While Belgian club Anderlecht were initially believed to be in pole position for his signature, Stoke City’s involvement has added another serious contender to the race. Norwich City, Swansea City, and FC Copenhagen are also said to be monitoring him closely.

Although Stoke City have not struggled significantly in front of goal overall, there is a clear desire within the club to add a reliable and in-form striker who can bring greater consistency to their attacking play. Under manager Mark Robins, the team has shown moments of strong offensive performance but has lacked sustained momentum over the course of the season. Tolaj’s playing style—energetic, developing, and already producing consistent end product—makes him an attractive option for clubs aiming to strengthen their forward line and push higher in the standings.

However, securing a deal will not be simple. Tolaj remains under contract with Plymouth Argyle until 2029, giving his current club strong negotiating power. Although his estimated market value is around £500,000, his impressive goal record and growing interest from multiple clubs mean the actual transfer fee would likely be significantly higher.

Stoke City’s 2025/26 season has been inconsistent. They began strongly, picking up early wins against teams like Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday, and even reached second place in the Championship by November. During that period, players such as Million Manhoef and Divin Mubama contributed heavily to their attacking success, and there was genuine optimism about a potential promotion push.

However, their form declined sharply during the winter months. Injuries to key attacking players disrupted their rhythm, and a run of inconsistent results saw them fall out of the play-off positions. While there were occasional positive results against teams like Oxford United and Watford, they were not enough to restore sustained momentum. Even though their defensive record showed some improvement and their goal difference remained positive, inconsistency ultimately defined their season.

As a result, Stoke currently sit in 16th place, reflecting a campaign that failed to maintain early promise. While there are still signs of a competitive squad capable of challenging stronger opponents, the lack of consistency has prevented them from mounting a serious promotion challenge.

The reported interest in Tolaj suggests Stoke are already looking ahead to strengthening their attacking options. Signing a forward in form could be a key step in addressing their inconsistency in front of goal and helping them convert potential into a stronger league position next season.
