Sunderland are continuing to pursue an ambitious recruitment strategy during the summer transfer window, with reports linking the club to three high-profile signings that could collectively cost as much as £77 million. The Black Cats appear determined to strengthen their squad significantly ahead of the new campaign as the club prepares for life at a higher level of competition.

With the transfer window gathering momentum, Sunderland’s Director of Football Operations, Florent Ghisolfi, is actively evaluating several potential additions to improve the team’s quality across multiple positions. The latest reports suggest the club is targeting players with experience in Italy’s Serie A, highlighting a clear intention to recruit young but proven talent capable of making an immediate impact.

One of the most eye-catching names linked with Sunderland is Roma winger Matías Soulé. According to reports from Italian media outlet Tele Radio Stereo, Sunderland have made an initial enquiry regarding the Argentine attacker. Although no formal bid has been submitted, the club is believed to have requested information about the player’s availability and the conditions of a possible transfer.

Soulé is currently valued at just over €35 million, equivalent to approximately £30 million. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most technically gifted young wingers in Italian football. A naturally left-footed player who usually operates on the right flank, he is recognised for his excellent dribbling ability, creativity, close ball control and attacking flair.

There is also a strong connection between Soulé and Sunderland’s recruitment team. Florent Ghisolfi played an important role in bringing the winger from Juventus to Roma in 2024, meaning he already has detailed knowledge of the player’s qualities and development. Soulé previously impressed during a successful loan spell with Frosinone before earning his permanent move to Roma.

Interest in the Argentine is not limited to Sunderland. German giants Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be monitoring his situation closely. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the player is not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia despite receiving approaches from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

In addition to their pursuit of Soulé, Sunderland have also been linked with Parma defender Mariano Troilo. The 23-year-old centre-back has attracted growing interest following an impressive breakthrough campaign in Serie A.

Italian reports claim that Fulham recently submitted an offer worth around €20 million (approximately £17 million), but Parma rejected the proposal. Sunderland and Leeds United have since emerged as potential suitors, although Parma are reportedly unwilling to negotiate unless offers exceed their current valuation.

Troilo only joined Parma from Argentine club Belgrano for around €8 million (£6.8 million), but his performances during the latter stages of last season significantly enhanced his reputation. Having adapted well to Italian football, the defender is now regarded as one of the league’s emerging young centre-backs. Parma are under no immediate financial pressure to sell and believe his market value could increase further if he continues his development.

Sunderland’s recruitment drive has also reportedly extended to Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemović. Italian journalist Luca Cilli claims that both Sunderland and Bournemouth are considering making serious approaches for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international in the coming weeks.

Muharemović is currently estimated to be worth between €25 million and €35 million, placing his valuation somewhere between approximately £21.5 million and £30 million. Juventus are also understood to retain a buy-back clause valued at around €18 million (£15.5 million), although reports suggest they currently trail Sunderland and Bournemouth in the race to secure his signature.

Should Sunderland eventually complete deals for all three players, the combined transfer expenditure would fall somewhere between £68.5 million and £77 million, depending on the final negotiated fees for Muharemović and Troilo. Such spending would represent one of the most ambitious transfer windows in the club’s recent history and underline Sunderland’s determination to build a squad capable of competing successfully in the upcoming season.

As preparations for the new campaign continue, Sunderland’s first-team squad has now returned to training at the Academy of Light. Recruitment work is expected to remain a priority over the coming weeks, with Florent Ghisolfi and the club’s hierarchy continuing to assess both financial considerations and squad requirements before making further moves in the transfer market. If you’d like, I can also rewrite this in a more journalistic, SEO-friendly, or humanized style suitable for publication.
