Many Tottenham supporters are reluctant to see Djed Spence leave after the 25-year-old showcased his outstanding athleticism and one-on-one defensive ability on the biggest stage during the summer.
Despite his impressive displays, reports suggest Spence could struggle for regular minutes next season if he remains at Spurs, prompting the club to consider selling him should a suitable offer arrive.
Tottenham have been in discussions with Inter Milan over a potential transfer in recent days, although the Italian giants may now face a higher asking price following Spence’s excellent World Cup performances.
Although Spurs strengthened their left-back options by signing Andy Robertson to compete with Destiny Udogie, Spence is not believed to be actively seeking a move away from north London.
Journalist George Sessions told Last Word on Spurs that the defender is content at the club and has not requested a transfer.
“I don’t think Djed is pushing for a move from what I’ve been told,” Sessions explained. “There’s simply a lot of interest because he’s had a fantastic World Cup, so clubs are naturally making enquiries.
“Tottenham aren’t actively trying to sell him, but they’ve secured Pedro Porro on a long-term contract and now have depth at left-back. If a significant bid came in, they would consider it, but Djed himself isn’t forcing an exit.”
According to Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham are demanding €40 million (£34 million) for Spence, with at least €35 million (£29.8 million) guaranteed. However, Inter are hoping to negotiate a lower fee, believing the player would be keen on a move to San Siro.
The former Middlesbrough defender is also attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, meaning his future remains far from settled and further developments could emerge before the transfer window closes.
