West Ham United are determined to keep El Hadji Malick Diouf at the club this summer, with Sky Sports journalists Lyall Thomas and Chris Reidy reporting that the Hammers have no intention of selling the highly rated left-back. Club officials have reportedly made it clear that the 21-year-old is not available for transfer, regardless of the size of any offer.
The update is a setback for Brentford, who recently made an enquiry about the Senegal international. Although the Bees explored the possibility of a deal, signing a left-back is understood not to be among their primary objectives this summer, and West Ham’s firm stance means they are expected to pursue alternative targets.
Diouf has become an important part of West Ham’s squad since arriving from Slavia Prague last summer. The young defender quickly cemented his place as the club’s first-choice left-back, adapting impressively to Premier League football during a season in which the Hammers reshaped their defensive unit.
The Senegalese international enjoyed an excellent debut campaign, making 34 appearances across all competitions, playing close to 3,000 minutes and contributing five assists. His consistent performances have attracted interest from several clubs, with Brentford among those monitoring his situation.
Brentford’s interest has raised eyebrows given that the club already has Rico Henry and promising youngster Jayden Meghoma competing for the left-back role. However, Diouf’s rapid development has reportedly made him an attractive market opportunity.
