Derby County supporters have been left emotional after Andreas Weimann reportedly admitted he “never wanted to leave” the club following his loan switch to Austrian side SK Rapid Wien earlier this year.
The experienced forward joined Rapid Vienna in February on a deal until the end of the 2025/26 season, returning to his hometown club after nearly two decades in English football.
Weimann, who rejoined Derby County for a second spell in the summer of 2025, made 27 appearances for the Rams before the temporary move was approved. The Austrian international scored once and provided three assists during his time at Pride Park this season.
Sources close to the player claim the 34-year-old remained emotionally attached to Derby even after leaving, with fans believing he still sees the club as “home.” His reported comments have sparked strong reactions among supporters, many of whom praised his professionalism and commitment despite limited starts under John Eustace.
The move to Rapid was largely viewed as an opportunity for Weimann to gain regular football while staying in contention for Austria’s national team ahead of the World Cup preparations.
Supporters flooded social media with emotional responses after the remarks surfaced, with several fans urging Derby to consider bringing the veteran attacker back permanently in the future.
Weimann previously spent three years at Derby between 2015 and 2018 before returning to the club last summer for his second stint.
