Ipswich Town plot sensational Millwall raid as Lions eye huge £20m payday

After returning to the Premier League in the 2024/25 season for the first time in 23 years, Ipswich Town suffered an immediate return to the Championship despite heavily investing in young talent such as Liam Delap, Omari Hutchinson, Jack Clarke and Jacob Greaves.

Although Kieran McKenna’s side showed ambition in the transfer market, their poor second-half form ultimately cost them survival. Much of their recruitment strategy focused on signing standout players from Championship clubs, and it appears that approach is set to continue ahead of the new campaign.

One player firmly back on Town’s radar is Femi Azeez of Millwall. Ipswich attempted to sign the winger during the January transfer window in early 2026, but failed to complete a deal after several bids were rejected. McKenna later admitted the player was “not attainable” at the time, despite one of the offers potentially representing a record sale for Millwall, surpassing the fee received for Romain Esse.

However, following Millwall’s play-off semi-final defeat to Hull City, speculation around Azeez’s future has intensified. The 24-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract, but the Lions are reportedly willing to consider offers this summer.

According to reports from Alan Nixon, Ipswich are preparing a fresh move for the former Reading FC winger, with a fee in the region of £15 million to £20 million being discussed.

Millwall are said to be open to a sale, which would hand manager Alex Neil significant funds to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. Ipswich, meanwhile, are hopeful of beating rival clubs to Azeez’s signature as they continue to flex their financial strength.

Azeez enjoyed an impressive Championship campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists, making him one of the division’s most sought-after attacking players.
