Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly preparing a club-record bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, overtaking Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United in the race for the highly-rated teenager.
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham’s major summer investment in midfield has left Bergvall considering his future. Spurs reportedly spent around £185 million to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, significantly strengthening their options in the center of the park. With competition for places increasing, the Swedish international is said to be seeking regular first-team football.
Bergvall, widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s brightest young midfielders, is eager to continue his development through consistent playing time. His performances have attracted strong interest from several clubs across England.
Nottingham Forest are believed to have seen a £38 million offer rejected, while Newcastle’s reported £46 million bid also fell short, with Tottenham valuing the 19-year-old at around £60 million.
Brighton have now reportedly emerged as serious contenders and are willing to meet Tottenham’s asking price with a record-breaking offer. The Seagulls are said to view Bergvall as a priority signing as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign.
The south coast club believe their proven track record of developing young talent makes them an ideal destination for Bergvall and are confident they can help him fulfill his enormous potential.
Although Tottenham would prefer to keep the Sweden international, Bergvall’s reported desire for more regular minutes, combined with Brighton’s willingness to meet the valuation, could make a transfer increasingly difficult for Spurs to resist. Brighton’s move would also put them ahead of Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, both of whom have so far stopped short of matching Tottenham’s demands.
